Bath salts are quite a fascinating group of therapeutic designer drugs. The name comes from early cases where the medicines were disguised as bath salt. Today, the bath salt, powdered crystals, or micro-granules often look very much like Dead Sea salt, but are different chemically. There is no reason to think that they won’t ever have the same health properties. And some of the bath salt benefits may be of particular interest to people with heath problems.
There’s a growing body of evidence that suggests that bath salts are addictive. The addictive qualities are found in all stimulants and can be addictive. This is an interesting area of study. We know that most drug addictions begin with a primary need that then becomes unmet for one reason or another, but the underlying mechanism here is that bath salts seem to fill a gap where there used to be none.
It has become well known over the past few years that there are many substances that are abused for their stimulant effects. Many researchers have looked into the relationship between bath salts misuse and mental disorders. In the United States, the medical profession has identified bath salts as a substance that is frequently used by patients with psychiatric disorders. In two national studies, the diagnoses of depression and other mood disorders were far higher for bath salt users than for those who were not.
The symptoms experienced by the abusers of bath salts include restlessness, irritability, trouble sleeping, hypersexuality, increased heart rate, and even hallucinations. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done to reverse these symptoms once they have begun. There is an addiction involved, and that becomes a real concern for medical professionals. The problem becomes how to treat the symptoms and the motivation that cause someone to start having these symptoms in the first place. This is what makes understanding the dynamics of bath salt addiction particularly difficult.
Psychologists and psychiatrists have identified two different areas of problem when it comes to bath salt use disorder. One area deals with hallucinations and paranoia. These symptoms typically come at a later stage in the addiction. At this point, the user begins to experience things that are beyond their normal range of perception. They may see and hear things that are out of their customary range of experience, and they begin to have strange thoughts and feelings.
The second area of concern deals with loss of control. Users of bath salts often feel that they cannot stop using them, and that they are losing control. One of the most common and dramatic of these symptoms is the onset of flank addiction. Some users lose complete control of themselves and are unable to stay on a regular schedule with their addiction. Other times, the user may be able to remain on a regular schedule but will suddenly find themselves withdrawing from other activities as a result of their increased level of usage.
Psychologists and psychiatrists have also noticed a number of mental health symptoms that can be associated with this condition. Often times, the delusions and hallucinations that people experience are the result of withdrawal from other strong medications that the individual is taking. When the individual starts experiencing hallucinations and delusions that they have been controlled by bath salts, it is likely that this is another sign of their mental health condition and not the effects of the bath salts themselves.
When the individual tries to quit using bath salts, there are a number of serious side effects that can occur. It is important for anyone who wants to quit to be aware of these potential side effects, because these can and do occur with any substance that an individual takes to help them deal with their hallucinations and paranoia. Anyone who is thinking about attempting to quit should speak to their doctor and get as much information about the bath salt abuse and addiction and its possible side effects. In addition, it is important to speak to someone who understands the dangers of bath salt. This is especially important if this is a disease that is unknown or if its just in the mind of the user.
