Abstracthiphop

Abstracthiphop is a genre that eschews many of the conventions of typical hip hop, including conventional rhymes and beats. Instead, abstract artists use unconventional production techniques to create their music. This music is often associated with the underground hip hop scene, and can be found on many independent labels.

Lyrically, abstract hip hop tends to avoid more upfront, visceral language, preferring extensive metaphors and symbolic word choice. This lyrical style also deviates from typical rhythms and rhyme patterns, often employing flows that border on spoken word.

Musically, abstract hip hop typically incorporates elements of jazz, funk, soul, and electronic music, as well as samples from a wide range of sources. This style of music can be very experimental and often features distorted sounds.

Earl Sweatshirt’s Some Rap Songs is one of the best abstract hip hop albums I have ever heard. The album is extremely emotional and contains many jazz samples which gives it an avant-garde feel.

Another great example of an abstract hip hop artist is Kevin Abstract, who focuses on personal issues and self-destructive behavior in his music. This lyrical style is very different from Tyler’s and can be very confronting to listen to.

If you are a fan of abstract hip hop, there is no better way to start than listening to Kevin Abstract’s “The 1-9-9-9 Is Coming”. This song is short and has just 45 seconds of rapping, but it will definitely leave a lasting impression on you.
